What to know

Understand the programme

A medical-spa programme may combine accommodation with specified therapies. It should not be assumed to provide the clinical intensity, nursing or supervision of inpatient rehabilitation. Ask what assessment, therapy time and assistance are included.

Match arrangements to daily needs

Clarify mobility, room accessibility, meals, companion arrangements and transport between accommodation and therapy. The provider must confirm clinical suitability and any assistance requirements before the stay.

Czech spa medicine

Czechia has a long tradition of spa medicine based on natural resources such as mineral springs, therapeutic mud and natural carbon dioxide. The West Bohemian spa towns of Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně and Františkovy Lázně belong to the UNESCO World Heritage site “Great Spa Towns of Europe”.

A typical programme
A stay is usually booked for a set number of nights and includes an initial examination by a spa doctor, a prescribed set of treatments and meals.
Treatments
Mineral baths, drinking cures, mud packs, physiotherapy, massage and exercise, depending on the programme and the doctor’s plan.
Length of stay
Often one to three weeks. Shorter stays include fewer treatments.

Questions to ask a spa or rehabilitation provider

Ask for the answers in writing before you book.

Questions to ask

  • How many treatments per day are included, and which ones?
  • Is a doctor available on site, also at night and at weekends?
  • Are rooms step-free, and can a companion share the room?
  • Which meals are included, and can they be halal?
  • What happens to the cost if the stay is cut short?
