Before your appointment
Travel dialysis needs confirmed slots, the current prescription, access information and the receiving centre’s required tests before travel.
Time, hospital stay & appointments
Times are planning guides, not national averages or guaranteed schedules. They reflect published provider examples and patient guidance. The treating team confirms the individual plan, time needed near the clinic and fitness to travel. Waiting lists are not included.
- Procedure or course duration
- NHS centre-based example: around 4 hours per session, usually 3 times a week.
- Hospital stay
- Each scheduled dialysis session is a monitored attendance. Routine maintenance treatment does not itself require an overnight admission, but clinical instability may change this.
- Visits and repeat attendance
- The NHS describes a common centre-based schedule of three visits each week. This is ongoing treatment, not a one-off course. The receiving nephrology service must accept and confirm the individual prescription before travel.
- Recovery and travel planning
- The schedule is individually prescribed and must not be interrupted. Confirm access care, medicines, transport and who handles problems between sessions.
Sources & finding a provider
Editorial source check: 29 October 2026. This is educational information, not an individual clinical assessment.
The specialty directories below help you research providers in each country; they do not confirm this procedure at every centre. The receiving service confirms eligibility, availability and international-patient acceptance. Procedure-specific clinical references are listed separately.
