MRI diagnostic imaging

Radiology · Planning care in Germany and Czechia

Clinical name
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
German
Magnetresonanztomographie (MRT / Kernspintomographie)
Czech
Magnetická rezonance (MR)

Uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed internal images. The body region and clinical question determine the protocol and whether contrast is needed. MRI is a diagnostic test, not a treatment.

Time, hospital stay & appointments

Times are planning guides, not national averages or guaranteed schedules. They reflect published provider examples and patient guidance. The treating team confirms the individual plan, time needed near the clinic and fitness to travel. Waiting lists are not included.

Procedure or course duration
NHS Inform describes 15–90 minutes for the scan, depending on the area and images required. Safety screening, preparation and any sedation extend the visit.
Hospital stay
Usually outpatient. Sedation or another medical condition may require observation and an escort.
Visits and repeat attendance
A referral or clinical assessment, 1 imaging appointment and a report discussion with the referring doctor. The report is not necessarily available immediately after the scan.
Recovery and travel planning
Disclose implants and devices before booking. Ask how to obtain both the radiology report and image files for the clinician at home.

Sources & finding a provider

Editorial source check: 29 October 2026. This is educational information, not an individual clinical assessment.

These country-specific sources document the service or its clinical use; their inclusion does not indicate a RAUQ partnership. Case acceptance, appointment availability and payment arrangements require separate provider confirmation.
