Before your appointment

Follow the service’s fasting and medicine instructions. Discuss throat spray, sedation and whether biopsies are planned.

Time, hospital stay & appointments

Times are planning guides, not national averages or guaranteed schedules. They reflect published provider examples and patient guidance. The treating team confirms the individual plan, time needed near the clinic and fitness to travel. Waiting lists are not included.

Procedure or course duration
NHS example: 15–45 minutes; the total hospital visit may be around 4 hours.
Hospital stay
Usually a day attendance with recovery or observation when needed. Sedation requires suitable transport and support afterwards.
Visits and repeat attendance
Plan one attendance for the test and a results discussion. The referral assessment and any repeat or additional tests may require separate visits; ask whether results can be discussed remotely.
Recovery and travel planning
If sedated, arrange collection and support and follow the 24-hour activity restrictions. Biopsy results require a separate reporting plan.

Sources & finding a provider

Editorial source check: 29 October 2026. This is educational information, not an individual clinical assessment.

The specialty directories below help you research providers in each country; they do not confirm this procedure at every centre. The receiving service confirms eligibility, availability and international-patient acceptance. Procedure-specific clinical references are listed separately.
