Anti-VEGF eye injections
Ophthalmology · Planning care in Germany and Czechia
- Clinical name
- Intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy
- German
- Intravitreale operative Medikamenteneingabe (IVOM), Anti-VEGF
- Czech
- Intravitreální aplikace anti-VEGF léčiv
Injects medicine into the vitreous cavity to reduce abnormal blood-vessel growth or leakage. Used for conditions such as wet age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular oedema. This is repeated disease control, not a one-off laser procedure.

Time, hospital stay & appointments
Times are planning guides, not national averages or guaranteed schedules. They reflect published provider examples and patient guidance. The treating team confirms the individual plan, time needed near the clinic and fitness to travel. Waiting lists are not included.
- Procedure or course duration
- The injection is brief, but testing, preparation and review make the visit longer. There is no single total treatment duration: ongoing monitoring and repeat injections may be needed long term.
- Hospital stay
- Usually an outpatient visit without an overnight hospital stay. The clinic confirms whether retinal scans and injection are combined in one visit.
- Visits and repeat attendance
- For wet AMD, a common starting pattern is 3 injections at monthly intervals, followed by further treatment according to the drug, retinal scans and response. This is not a fixed three-visit course; other indications and medicines use different loading schedules.
- Recovery and travel planning
- Ask for a written plan for repeat injections, OCT monitoring and access to urgent eye care. Continuity between the treating centre and the home ophthalmologist matters more than a short travel package.
Sources & finding a provider
Editorial source check: 29 October 2026. This is educational information, not an individual clinical assessment.
These country-specific sources document the service or its clinical use; their inclusion does not indicate a RAUQ partnership. Case acceptance, appointment availability and payment arrangements require separate provider confirmation.
