Reconstructs an unstable torn ACL using a graft, usually through arthroscopic surgery. Symptoms, activity goals and associated meniscal injury determine whether surgery or structured rehabilitation is appropriate.

- Procedure or course duration
- NHS guidance gives 1–3 hours for surgery, excluding preparation and recovery. Associated repairs may change the plan.
- Hospital stay
- Same-day discharge is possible in NHS guidance; inpatient protocols also exist. Obtain the actual hospital-night estimate from the chosen centre.
- Visits and repeat attendance
- Assessment and anaesthetic preparation, 1 operation, an early review and repeated physiotherapy. NHS recovery guidance describes a check at about 2–3 weeks. The total session count is individually prescribed.
- Recovery and travel planning
- Rehabilitation takes months. Return to pivoting sport requires strength and functional assessment; NHS guidance notes that return to sport can take up to a year.
