Cerebrospinal-fluid sampling.

Before your appointment
The team reviews blood thinners, clotting and the reason for sampling cerebrospinal fluid. Follow individual medication and preparation instructions.
Time, hospital stay & appointments
Times are planning guides, not national averages or guaranteed schedules. They reflect published provider examples and patient guidance. The treating team confirms the individual plan, time needed near the clinic and fitness to travel. Waiting lists are not included.
- Procedure or course duration
- NHS example: 15–20 minutes, followed by around 1–2 hours of monitoring.
- Hospital stay
- The test is followed by observation. Day discharge depends on the protocol and your condition; allow time for recovery and transport arrangements.
- Visits and repeat attendance
- Plan one attendance for the test and a results discussion. The referral assessment and any repeat or additional tests may require separate visits; ask whether results can be discussed remotely.
- Recovery and travel planning
- Follow the service’s rest instructions and contact it for persistent severe headache or other concerning symptoms. Laboratory results may return at different times.
Sources & finding a provider

The specialty directories below help you research providers in each country; they do not confirm this procedure at every centre. The receiving service confirms eligibility, availability and international-patient acceptance. Procedure-specific clinical references are listed separately.
