Before your appointment

Electrical stimulation and surface recordings assess nerve function. Tell the service about implanted electrical devices before attending.

Time, hospital stay & appointments

Times are planning guides, not national averages or guaranteed schedules. They reflect published provider examples and patient guidance. The treating team confirms the individual plan, time needed near the clinic and fitness to travel. Waiting lists are not included.

Procedure or course duration
Appointment length depends on the nerves tested and whether needle EMG is added.
Hospital stay
Usually outpatient, without an overnight stay for the test itself. Preparation or additional tests may extend attendance.
Visits and repeat attendance
Plan one attendance for the test and a results discussion. The referral assessment and any repeat or additional tests may require separate visits; ask whether results can be discussed remotely.
Recovery and travel planning
Most people resume usual activities after surface testing. Results are interpreted alongside examination and, when needed, EMG or imaging.

Sources & finding a provider

Editorial source check: 29 October 2026. This is educational information, not an individual clinical assessment.

The specialty directories below help you research providers in each country; they do not confirm this procedure at every centre. The receiving service confirms eligibility, availability and international-patient acceptance. Procedure-specific clinical references are listed separately.
