Holter ECG monitoring
- Time
- 24-hour recording in the cited example
- Appointments
- Fitting + device return + results review
Electrocardiography (ECG)
- Time
- NHS example: the resting recording takes a few minutes.
- Appointments
- 1 test attendance + results review
Transthoracic echocardiography
- Time
- NHS example: a standard chest ultrasound takes around 30–40 minutes.
- Appointments
- 1 test attendance + results review
Coronary angiography
- Time
- Duration depends on diagnostic complexity and whether an intervention is added.
- Appointments
- Assessment + operation + follow-up
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
- Time
- NHS example: 30 minutes to 2 hours; complex cases may take longer.
- Appointments
- Assessment + operation + follow-up
Pacemaker implantation
- Time
- NHS example: implantation usually takes about an hour.
- Appointments
- Assessment + implantation + repeated checks
Electrical cardioversion
- Time
- The electrical treatment is brief; preparation and anaesthetic recovery take longer.
- Appointments
- Assessment + operation + follow-up
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
- Time
- NHS example: the operation commonly takes 3–6 hours.
- Appointments
- Assessment + operation + follow-up
Surgical aortic valve replacement
- Time
- Duration and hospital stay depend on the surgical approach and additional procedures.
- Appointments
- Assessment + operation + follow-up
Endovenous laser ablation
- Time
- The number and extent of treated veins determine the appointment length.

Specialty guides
Medical specialties and focused care areas. Choose a guide for clinical terms, treatment options and preparation.
Cardiology
Heart rhythm, coronary disease and heart failure assessment; examples include ECG, Holter monitoring and echocardiography.
Read the guide: CardiologyCardiac surgery
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and heart valve repair or replacement, with postoperative cardiac rehabilitation.
Read the guide: Cardiac surgeryVascular surgery
Arterial disease, aneurysms and venous disorders, including varicose veins; options may be open, endovascular or conservative.
Read the guide: Vascular surgeryCoronary artery disease
Coronary care assesses reduced blood supply to the heart. Medicines, risk-factor management and selected revascularisation procedures are planned according to symptoms and test findings.
Read the guide: Coronary artery diseaseHeart rhythm & electrophysiology
Rhythm assessment identifies the type and significance of an arrhythmia. Monitoring, medicines, ablation and implanted devices have different goals and follow-up requirements.
Read the guide: Heart rhythm & electrophysiologyHeart failure care
Heart failure care combines investigation of the cause with medication adjustment and monitoring. Device treatment and rehabilitation are considered for eligible patients.
Read the guide: Heart failure careHeart valve disease
Valve assessment establishes which valve is affected and how severely. Follow-up, catheter treatment or surgery depends on symptoms, heart function and specialist-team review.
Read the guide: Heart valve diseaseAortic disease & aneurysms
Aortic care is guided by the location, size and behaviour of the disease. Surveillance imaging and open or endovascular repair require different follow-up plans.
Read the guide: Aortic disease & aneurysmsPeripheral arterial disease
Leg artery assessment examines circulation and its effect on walking and tissue health. Risk reduction, exercise and selected procedures are tailored to symptom severity.
Read the guide: Peripheral arterial diseaseVaricose veins & venous disease
Venous assessment distinguishes varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency and thrombosis. Ultrasound findings guide treatment, compression and follow-up where appropriate.

Understanding the options

Heart conditions need different approaches. A planned cardiology review may consider existing findings, medication and whether a procedure is appropriate. Coronary artery disease and heart failure, for example, do not have one shared treatment plan.
- Specialist assessment and review of prescribed medicines.
- Coronary angioplasty, sometimes with a stent, or bypass surgery in selected coronary cases.
- Valve procedures or implanted cardiac devices for selected diagnoses.
- Clinician-directed cardiac rehabilitation and follow-up.
The cardiology team decides which tests or treatments are appropriate and whether travel is safe. These are examples, not a recommendation or a promise of availability in Germany or Czechia. RAUQ does not provide emergency medical care.
